Today, Amazon is so much more than an online marketplace.
It’s a tool that lets many people live their dream lives.
Look no further than Bezos’ annual report to Amazon’s shareholders for the proof.
Recently, the company published a report that shows its progress over the last 10 years.
Among other things, it shows that independent sellers – I.e. 3rd party sellers on Amazon’s platform – have never been more powerful than now.
In Bezos’ own words:
“To put it bluntly: Third-party sellers are kicking our first party butt. Badly.”
According to the report, independent sellers account for 58% of all items sold on Amazon.
Between 1999 and 2018, the revenue from these sales went from $0.1 to US$160 billion.
Not only that, 3rd-party sellers have been responsible for creating 1.6 million jobs across the globe.
Judging by the success that these sellers are having, this number will only grow in the future.
In fact, already over 140,000 sellers make over $100,000 per year in sales – and that number will only rise.
That’s why to me it makes sense to get in the game as soon as you can.
Amazon has invested billions into helping small and medium businesses thrive on the platform.
So, Bezos is proud that there are so many people who are able to take full advantage of everything Amazon offers.
Of course, this benefits the company itself. In 2018 alone, Amazon earned about US$43 billion in fees and commissions from third-party seller services.
However, the beauty of Amazon is they make most of their money from 3rd party sellers by taking a percentage of sales. So, you don’t need to pay Amazon a lot of money until you are selling a lot of products.
Judging by the above stats, it’s safe to say that it has never been a better time to become an Amazon seller.
In fact, here’s what one Amazon seller recently posted.
